Margaret Thorwart is a higher education health promotion professional with extensive experience advancing alcohol and other drug (AOD) prevention, harm reduction, and student well-being initiatives across Pennsylvania. She currently serves as Director of the Center for Health Education and Promotion at Millersville University, where she leads campus-wide, evidence-based prevention strategies focused on reducing high-risk drinking, supporting sober curiosity, and promoting informed decision-making among college students. Her work integrates public health frameworks and data-driven assessment to strengthen prevention outcomes at the institutional and community levels. Margo is a SMART Recovery certified facilitator, a certified Wellness Coach through WellCoaches, and is trained to facilitate BASICS as well as other motivational interviewing interventions. She regularly collaborates with state and local partners, secures grant funding for prevention efforts, and contributes to professional conferences and coalitions dedicated to substance use prevention and student success. She also works in the areas of mental health, suicide prevention, healthy relationships, and violence prevention.
