Youth and adults each get a track built for them: young people dig into what matters most to them, while adults build specific, practical skills for connecting with the youth in their lives. The day is grounded in the Health-Promoting Relationships (HPR) approach: the idea that strong, trusted relationships do more for prevention than any program alone.

Two ways to attend:

  • Bring a group: We’re offering up to 12 Pennsylvania youth-serving organizations a $1,200 travel grant to help bring 6 to 8 students and their adult chaperones.
  • Come on your own: Any adult who works with youth in some capacity is welcome to attend individually. Space is limited and first-come, first-served; travel support isn’t available for individual attendees.

THC Today: Potency, Addiction, & Health Risks of High-Potency Cannabis

Wednesday, September 30, 2026 • 10:00 am – 11:30 am

Via Zoom

Presented by David Fialko, The Council of Southeast Pennsylvania, Inc.

Participants who attend the full session will receive a certificate of attendance, which can help satisfy PA DDAP annual training requirements.

Over the past three decades, marijuana has evolved from a mild substance into a highly potent chemical product. This session examines how skyrocketing THC concentrations and synthetic manipulation have transformed cannabis, increasing the risks of addiction, severe mental health issues, and cannabis-induced psychosis in adolescents.

Session Objectives

  • Describe how THC interacts with the endocannabinoid system, and summarize current trends in cannabis potency and their relationship to dependency, anxiety, and cannabis-induced psychosis.
  • Differentiate between naturally occurring cannabis compounds and modern high-THC concentrates, and compare their therapeutic applications and associated health risks.
  • Explain how today’s cannabis products differ from those of previous decades in THC potency, formulation, and potential health effects.
  • Identify evidence-based prevention, education, and policy strategies that address the public health challenges of high-potency THC use.
